What’s the Premier League desk this season?

It was a great day for Manchester City as they thrashed Newcastle, while both Liverpool and Chelsea dropped points.

City moved three points clear of Liverpool at the top of the table as they thumped Newcastle 4-0 at St James’ Park, with Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling all scoring.

Liverpool could only manage a 2-2 draw with Tottenham in a thrilling match in north London.

Spurs took the lead through Harry Kane and squandered big chances to double their advantage before Liverpool turned the match around through Diogo Jota and Andrew Robertson.

Heung-Min Son earned a share of the spoils, while Robertson was later sent off in a game that also had controversy.

Third-placed Chelsea‘s poor form continued and they fell six points behind City after a bore-draw at Wolves. Daniel Podence had a goal disallowed for the home team.

The early match between Everton and Leicester was postponed due to COVID.

Arsenal took advantage of a spate of postponements in the Premier League to further cement their place in the top four of the standings with a 4-1 win over Leeds on Saturday.

It was Saturday’s only surviving fixture as the other five matches were all called off for Covid-related issues.

The Gunners had already secured a spot in the Champions League places at Christmas as Manchester United’s game against Brighton was called off, and they enhanced their position further with a ruthless display at Elland Road.

Their opponents were coming off a 7-0 thrashing by Manchester City but remained in benevolent mood as they gifted possession away in dangerous areas. Twice they would be punished by Gabriel Martinelli in the first half, and shortly before the break they were undone as Bukayo Saka’s shot took a deflection past Ilan Meslier.

The second half proved to be slightly more of a contest, but Emile Smith Rowe secured the points after Raphinha had converted a penalty.
